DISTANCE ADOPTION APPLICATION FORM
For several years, San Marino for the Children ONLUS has been running a Distance Adoption Project in Malawi.
The situation in Malawi, a small African country, continues to worsen. Poverty is increasing, life expectancy remains among the lowest in the world, the future is increasingly uncertain, harvests are poor, and famine and AIDS continue to have a devastating impact.
In this extremely difficult context, distance adoption is a practical and meaningful way to offer hope to the more than one million orphans in Malawi who have been affected by the ongoing AIDS epidemic. Through this program, these children come to understand that there are people around the world who care about them.
How the Distance Adoption Program Works
The office responsible for managing the distance adoption program is located in Balaka, Malawi. Local volunteers working in different villages identify children who have lost their father, mother, or both parents and who are in need of support. These children are then enrolled in the program.
Each child’s profile, including a photograph and personal information, is sent to San Marino for the Children ONLUS, where a sponsor is sought to support the child through distance adoption.
What Your Sponsorship Provides
A distance adoption includes:
- Monthly financial support for the orphan and the relatives who have taken the child into their home, helping with food and clothing.
- Free school attendance, which is especially important in a country where approximately 45% of the population is still illiterate.
- Annual distribution of essential supplies, including a blanket, school materials, soap, flour, maize, salt, sugar, and other basic necessities.
- Medical assistance, including healthcare, medical treatment, and the purchase of medicines.
Annual Sponsorship Contribution
The annual cost of sponsoring an orphan in Malawi is €220.00.
Payments should be made by bank transfer to:

As our organization is a registered ONLUS (non-profit organization), your donation receipt may be used to claim the tax deductions or benefits available under applicable tax regulations.
Payment Options and Duration
We keep the sponsorship process as flexible as possible.
The annual contribution of €220.00 may be paid:
- in one single payment;
- in two installments; or
- in four installments.
The sponsorship generally lasts 8 to 10 years, providing the child with educational support until adulthood.
If, for any reason, you are no longer able to continue your sponsorship, simply notify us in advance by email or telephone. We will arrange for another sponsor to continue supporting the child.
The important thing to remember is that sponsoring a child means making a commitment that has a real impact on another person’s life and future.
Updates from Malawi
Father Piergiorgio Gamba, who coordinates the distance adoption project in Balaka, writes to sponsors twice a year, providing updates about the children’s lives, their progress, and the needs of the mission.
